The ElectriPy AI Manifesto
1. Models Are Not the Architecture
The model is one component.
The model does not trace itself. The model does not enforce policy. The model does not retry on failure, detect drift, manage session state, redact sensitive outputs, or audit its own decisions.
The model is powerful. It is not the system.
The system is the architecture around the model: how calls are routed, how failures are handled, how outputs are governed, how performance is measured, how costs are tracked, how sessions are managed, how agents are coordinated.
That architecture is what ships to production.
2. The Prototype Trap
AI prototypes are easy to demo and hard to operate.
The gap between "it works in a notebook" and "it runs reliably in production" is not a model problem. It is an infrastructure problem.
In the prototype, there is no retry logic. There is no PII detection. There is no evaluation harness. There is no circuit breaker. There is no policy gate. There is no audit trail. There is no cost tracking. There is no fallback.
The prototype works because everything is manual, controlled, and forgiven.
Production forgives nothing.
3. The Runtime Layer
Every production AI system needs a runtime layer — the infrastructure that sits between the application and the model:
- Reliability: retries, circuit breakers, fallback chains, rate limiting
- Observability: structured spans, OpenTelemetry tracing, cost metadata, redaction
- Governance: policy enforcement, approvals, audit trails, guardrails
- Evaluation: scorers, baselines, regression gates, CI integration
- Orchestration: routing, session management, multi-agent coordination, tool dispatch
- Model Runtime: provider-neutral clients, structured output, caching, replay
This layer is not optional. It is what makes AI systems operable.
Most teams build it by hand. It gets rebuilt for every project. It stays undocumented. It breaks at scale.

4. LSAS Architecture
LSAS — Layered Safety and Accuracy System for AI Systems — is the architectural model behind ElectriPy AI.
It defines nine layers of concern for production AI systems:

5. ElectriPy AI
ElectriPy AI is the open source AI Application Runtime.
It is not an agent framework.
It is not a RAG framework.
It is not an MCP wrapper.
It is not a chatbot toolkit.
It is the runtime layer that makes AI systems reliable, observable, governable, and evaluable in production.
It composes with LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, AutoGen, CrewAI, Semantic Kernel, custom agents, and any architecture that calls a model.
6. Principles
Runtime concerns belong close to the application.
Infrastructure that travels with code is infrastructure that gets maintained.
Observability should be built in, not bolted on.
Tracing and telemetry should be first-class, not afterthoughts added at incident time.
Governance should be executable, not documented only.
Policy that exists only in a document does not run in production. ElectriPy AI makes policy executable.
Reliability should be composable.
Circuit breakers, retries, and fallbacks should be primitives you can wire in one import, not monoliths you adopt wholesale.
Evaluation should run before deployment.
Scoring, baseline comparison, and CI gating should be part of the development loop, not a post-production surprise.
Provider abstraction should avoid lock-in.
Swap OpenAI for Anthropic or Ollama without rewriting business logic.
Production AI should be testable without live providers.
Every component should be exercisable offline, deterministically, with no API keys required.
Architecture should be layered, explicit, and incremental.
LSAS defines the layers. You implement the layers you need. You add the others when they matter.

8. Closing Statement
AI does not fail in production because the model is weak.
